Strategic Business Writing

You will get two workshops together in this course,  offering all of the business writing skills needed for success. If you want to improve your work professionalism, working on your business writing skills are a great place to start. You will learn to think prior to writing and learn to write engaging and compelling communications for media like web and print. This will include persuasive writing techniques and calls to action while focusing on clarity and strategic messaging.

Project Management

If you are wondering where to start with your next project, this course can be helpful. You will learn to execute projects on-time and on-budget using standards of the Project Management Institute (PMI).  Learning to manage large projects or just your current workload can be easier with project management skills, while helping you gain a reputation as an efficient and organized project manager. This course qualifies for Professional Development Unit (PDU) credits from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Software Development

This program is available both by distance and in-classroom delivery. It can help enhance career opportunities in software development, teach you new computer languages and upgrade application skills. In-depth training is used that focuses on object-oriented programming and analysis to improve your abilities by studying essential concepts and programming languages like Visual Basic.NET or JAVA . Many of the Microsoft courses help you earn Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certification.

Website Development

This program is available by distance and classroom delivery, and part-time Certificate program as well. It is designed to give you skills that are needed for a successful career in website development; it will teach you to construct and create websites utilizing design tools and basic programming tools, including building and maintaining content, integrating audio and visual objects, managing web development projects and effective communications.

Educational Assistant Certificate

This Certificate program is available by distance delivery or in classroom at five different campuses:

This is a program to prepare you to work with students in support of teachers and clinicians.  You will explore the development needs of children at different ages and educational strategies to match those needs.  A focus on a range of topics from learner characteristics to inclusive learning and managing behaviour and professionalism are covered. Parts of the program include oral presentations, group projects and written assignments.

Accounting

This Certificate program is available by classroom delivery, and distance delivery is available for some courses. Visit the Program Outline for specific courses and details on credit transfer availability through Certified General Accountants Association. It is good preparation for a wide range of accounting field careers. The program includes courses that teach accounting fundamentals like preparing financial statements, financial, accounting and relevant computer skills. Additional specialization in cost accounting, finance or applying accounting in business processes is also available.

Business Analyst

The Business Analyst Certificate program is available online or in the classroom. This program will provide the needed skills and knowledge to analyze and validate data and determine the best recommendations for organizational problems, monitor, test and document requirements during a product’s life cycle and communicate results.

Administrative and Business Studies

This Certificate program is delivered online and at these five campuses:

This program was designed to prepare you for many careers in management and business by expanding your knowledge and helping you develop the skills needed to communicate effectively, supervise and manage a team. Electives help you to focus on key business areas like marketing, accounting and economics. This program is for you if you’d like a broad understanding of administrative and management functions, or if you are preparing for career changes, a new job or career advancement.

Human Resource Management

This part time Certificate program is available online or classroom delivery at Regional Campuses.  This program prepares you for a career in the crucial business area of human resource management (HRM). You will learn basic HR components like recruiting, staffing, compensation, development and training. You will study current trends and issues, labour relations and workplace health and safety. This Certificate program a strong foundation for HRM designations, like the Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) and International Personnel Management of Canada (IPMA) designations. These courses can be transferred towards degree programs at some universities. Contact the Program Manager for assistance with transfer credit.

Library Training

This is a Certificate program available by distance delivery. The program delivers the knowledge and skills needed by clerical personnel in public and school libraries. After completing the seven courses in the program you may request a Certificate in Library Training. One core class and an elective are allowed by self-direction, and other classes must be completed on a term basis. These courses are offered infrequently, so plan your class schedule with that in mind.

Management Development

This Certificate program is available by classroom delivery and some courses are available online. You will learn the basics of the human resource function and management principles while learning the needed skills and knowledge to manage people effectively. You will expand your management skills and improve your career prospects or get ready to for a promotion. A wide range of topics is covered, including leadership, ethics, organizational behaviour and communications.

Recreation Facilitator for Senior Adults

This program is currently under re-development. Students in the current part time program are able to complete the program, but no new students will be accepted for the part time program right now, though students are being accepted into the full-time program. This program is available online and some classes are available in the classroom.  Credit transfers are possible through the University of North America Recreation Management and Community Development degree program. This program can prepare you to work in recreational services for older adults and those people with disabilities. You will learn to design and implement programs in settings like personal care homes, adult day care, assisted living and extended hospital care. A wide range of topics is involved, like interpersonal communications, therapeutic fitness and an introduction to gerontology. You will learn about working with volunteers and program planning, and the program is designed for people working in this field or seeking employment. It will provide both theory and practical experience.

Volunteer Management

This Certificate program is available online with some courses available in the classroom. You should take this program if you want to expand your management skills and ensure your volunteer programs are successful and positively contribute to your organization. You will develop recruiting, motivating, training and volunteer management skills. A range of topics like marketing and recruiting, risk management, communications, program planning and evaluation and working with volunteers will be covered.
